Keeping the lights on for residents and businesses in the regional Southwest requires reliable energy sources. Utility providers are rapidly expanding those sources by adding renewable energy infrastructure.

In Boulder City, Nevada, Tri-State installed 588 drilled helical piles to install one of Nevada’s largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) banks. This helical field will secure 306 Megapack BESS containers and 79 MV transformers for the Boulder Solar project – an estimated 150 megawatt solar array.

Over 100 Miles of Renewable Energy Transmission Lines

In the great effort to go green, the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, green-lit a multi-year project to generate renewable energy sources for the citizens for New York. Named the Smart Path Connect, this multi-phase project is overseen by the New York Power Authority and National Grid in their most accelerated outage schedule ever. They are involving contractors of different specialties providing services to complete an approximately 100 mile transmission corridor. 

Tri-State is proud to help out with this large project and make the air we breathe a little cleaner. After completion, this project will be able to deliver an estimated 1,000 Megawatts of hydroelectric power generated along the St. Lawrence River as well as solar power produced in Northern New York. The result of this project is an estimated decrease of carbon emissions (CO2) by over 1 million tons, annually.

Project Overview

We are rebuilding 2 – 55 mile circuits of 345KV transmission line in Northern New York

Project Size

We are rebuilding over 100 miles of transmission lines, with Tri-State building one of two 55-mile circuits, in the largest New York infrastructure project in over 40 years

Environmental Impact

By the time this project is done, there will be:

  • Decreased CO2 Emissions of 1.16M Tons Annually
  • Decreased NO2 Emissions of 160 Tons Annually

Fun Facts

To complete the project, we are using:

  • Over 25,000 CY of soil and rock excavated
  • Over 10,000 CY of concrete planned
  • ~1,000,000 lbs of rebar
Once complete, the Smart Path Connect project will help unbottle existing renewable resources in the region and yield significant production cost savings, emissions reductions, and decreases in transmission congestion. It is estimated to result in more than 1.16 million tons of CO2 emissions avoided annually on a statewide basis and an annual reduction of an estimated 160 tons of NOx emissions. NYPA estimates the project will provide more than $447 million in annual congestion savings in northern New York and the project has created hundreds of clean energy jobs during construction.
