This project will upgrade and rebuild aging Rhode Island Energy transmission line facilities based on recommendations from the Asset Optimization Strategy (AOS) Team. The work focuses on improving reliability issues on the M13 and L14 115kV transmission lines, which serve key areas in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The AOS Team determined that parts of the transmission system have exceeded their expected life, leading to higher maintenance costs and an increased risk of equipment failure. Rhode Island Energy recommends rebuilding these lines to current design standards rather than continuing extensive maintenance.
- M13 Line: Runs approximately 19.7 miles from Somerset Switchyard in Somerset, MA to Dexter Street Substation in Portsmouth, RI.
- L14 Line: Runs approximately 16.2 miles from Bell Rock No. 118 Substation in Fall River, MA to Dexter Street Substation in Portsmouth, RI.
Tri-State Drilling is currently installing foundations with four crews for the transmission line upgrades, working safely and efficiently through challenging drilling conditions.
